Thinking Phone Networks (www.thinkingphones.com) is seeking well qualified applicants to join the provisioning team of a fast growing, business-focused Unified Communications provider in the Cambridge MA area. An ideal candidate has at least 5 years hands on experience designing / architecting, implementing, and supporting networks in an enterprise or service provider environment. A bachelor’s degree is required for this position.

Soft Skills

• Candidate must be 100% professional, and be able to patiently and effectively communicate complex concepts to audiences with varying skill levels, in person, on the phone, and via email.
• Strong written and communications skills with a demonstrated comfort level authoring non-trivial documents.
• Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills for problems that span multiple domains (applications, network, system, hardware).

Hard Skills

• Expert working knowledge or certification with Juniper JUNOS, Cisco IOS, Adtran AOS or other command line based routers, switches, and firewalls required.
• Demonstrated familiarity with TCP/UDP, IP routing, Ethernet, VLANs (802.1q), DHCP, NAT, 802.11, and router failover configurations. QoS / CoS and BGP experience a plus.
• Experience with DSL, Cable, T1, DS3, Metro Ethernet, VPN, MPLS deployments.
• Comfortable configuring firewall rulesets, ingress / egress filters, ACLs, etc.
• Working knowledge of VoIP (SIP/RTP or other protocol) & VPN.
• Knowledge of open SIPs, Polycom handset, SIP trunking experience is a plus.
• Experience with Cisco Call Manager, Avaya, Nortel, Shoretel or other enterprise PBX a plus.
• Experience with video (Polycom, Tandberg, etc) a plus.
• Knowledge of Juniper SRX and MX series and Cisco 1900, 2900, 3900, ASR 1000 series routers or equivalent is necessary to fulfill the needed job duties.
• Knowledge of Juniper EX series and Cisco 2900, 3500, 3700, 4900 series switches or equivalent is a necessary to fulfill the needed job duties.
• Linux (and / or other Unix) experience, and familiarity at the command line required.
• Any scripting or coding experience (e.g. bash, perl, python) is a plus.
• Able to create and document network designs using visio to show customer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Participate as a key technical resource of the TPN provisioning team to bring customers live on our hosted unified communications platform.
• Work with customers to clarify and document their data (LAN/WAN) and voice requirements. Then create and implement a network design meeting those requirements.
• Troubleshoot customer service issues which may involve network, systems, applications, and end-user interaction.
• Setup new customer configurations in the Thinking Phones UC platform, and configure customer-side network devices.
• Work with partner carriers to turn up and troubleshoot T1s, MPLS circuits, etc.
• Serve in a pre-sales engineer on an as-needed basis to propose workable system / network designs to prospective customers.
• Participate in special projects such as new application rollouts, new data center build outs, etc
